Avery went to the kids club for an hour or so after breakfast as we planned our day. It was time to escape this luxury hotel (how perverse does that sound?). Even Charlotte said it felt a little like a prison, a very nice prison, but there was nothing much to do. Have we been on vacation too long already? It's only been a week!
The girls went to the library to get on-line while Josh and I figured out what to do. We decided we'd pack up and go to a beach down the road that was recommended to us. When we saw Brandinchi on the cover of the Sardegna Beach Guide in the gift shop, we were sold. We picked Avery up from the kids club -- where he had been celebrating a birthday, and headed to Brandinchi. As soon as we arrived and saw the paid parking, I realized I'd forgotten my wallet and we had no money. So, we returned to our hotel. Our 10 minute drive down the road turned into a half-an-hour due to my mistake. But, once back at Brandinchi, it was well-worth it. I would have driven an hour to go to this incredibly beautiful beach -- or the one just next door: Lu Impostu which was equally nice. The water was shallow for a long, long stretch so it was perfect for Avery. We rented a paddle boat for an hour. But it wasn't just any paddle boat -- it had a slide on it. We all had a ball swimming and sliding off the paddle boat. Except for Avery. Avery didn't want to swim or slide. He wanted to poop. And, while he tried to "save it" mother-nature got the better of him and he just took his swim suit off and pooped right in to the water off the back of the boat. No asking. No telling. He just got back there and started going. When I turned around I was horrified, but what could I do? Fortunately, there was only one man swimming nearby. For me, this put an end to the boating activity. We high-tailed it out of there and returned the toy.
Avery and I had a panino from the beach shack while Josh played frisbee with the girls in the water. Later, we all ate panini and hot-dogs, and Josh and I had beers at the beach shack. It was nap-time and thus time to go. But first we took Charlotte to her friends' aparatment in Puntaldia. Punta d'Aldia is a very quaint community of apartments, shops and restaurants and we thought we'd like to return later to explore when we have more time.
Meanwhile, back at the hotel, Josh and Avery napped; Olivia and I went to the hotel beach. Unfortunately, the shuttle did not turn up at the beach to take us back and after walking the majority of the distance with Olivia, I seriously blew a gasket when back at reception. The fact that the beach is 1km away by foot (advertised at 500meters but that would be as the crow flies), and that the shuttle does not operate continuously is one thing (and poor policy at that), but the fact that they post a schedule and then don't adhere to it is absolutely unacceptable. When the GM was called, all he could do was apologize and agree with me. Our discussion became a long one. I had already emailed the agency, Charming Sardinia, who booked us here and requested a partial refund. Given the hotel is not fully open, and not fully functioning, I don't want to be the only guest paying full price. The agency is looking into it but clearly, since we paid in full before we arrived, the odds are against us.
We spent some time at the pool. Olivia and Avery had a gelato during happy hour. Each evening at 6pm, the pool bar serves free drinks and snacks -- a nice touch. Later, the four of us had dinner together -- inside. Unfortunately, the outdoor terrace at the restaurant is having a problem with wasps. Last night, three were circling Olivia before we gave up and moved our dinners inside. Tonight, we didn't even give it a try -- nor did any of the other guests. A real shame; just add that to the list of hotel problems. After dinner, we drove to Puntaldia to pick up Charlotte and have a passeggiatta with Bianca and the kids along the marina. As hot as it is during the day, it is pleasant in the evenings and it was fun to have a stroll.
