Cala di Lepre -- Day 2

Josh motivated to get up early for a ride. When the kids woke up, I took them to breakfast. But first, we rode down to the beach on a golf cart to reserve some chairs (not too many with umbrellas are available). Avery loves riding the golf cart! Then we took a golf cart back up to the Le Terraze Restaurant. This is the smaller restaurant, but it serves the same buffet breakfast as the restaurant in the main building. As the name would suggest, the view is terrific.

We have found all of the staff here to be extremely nice -- always service with a smile. The waiter at breakfast was eager to try out his English. Olivia ordered a hot chocolate. Josh turned up at the tail-end of breakfast -- just before the 10:30am cut-off. Avery kept him company while I walked the girls down towards the kid's club. We stopped at the archery area where I dropped them off so they could test their skills.

Josh brought Avery down but he was not having any part of the kid's club. It is intimidating for him when everyone is speaking only in Italian -- which is a shame after a year in Italy -- because at school he could always take refuge with the English speakers. On top of that, Avery knew that we wanted him to participate in the kids' activities and thus he refused just to spite us. He insisted that Josh stay with him; Josh was not happy about it. In fact, there was a very attractive young counselor with dark hair and blue eyes who spoke English well-enough, and Avery did not want to go with her. Josh said he was going to take a photo of her and show it to Avery in 10 years and ask him what he could've been thinking?

The girls seemed to be having much fun though. We all had lunch together by the pool again. Then the girls were off to join the other kids for the after-lunch movie in the main building. Avery stuck around with us and swam in the pool before he and Josh retreated to the bungalow for a nap along with the Tour de France coverage.

At 6:30pm, it was still blazing hot when I went to see the girls at the club house. They were in the middle of putting on a show for the parents -- singing and dancing; very cute. Then, the three of us went to take a swim in the sea. The hotel has a dock with mattresses for suntanning (no thank you) along with a ladder for easy entry into the water. Otherwise, you can enter from the beach, but the sand stops and it becomes rocky just at the water's edge. I prefer swimming from the dock. The girls had yet to swim in the sea since we arrived and they really enjoyed it.
Then it was time to head back up for a shower and get dressed for dinner.

At 8pm, the buffet was not yet ready...but it was open by 8:15pm. We had another delicious dinner, with a table overlooking the bay. As soon as the kids were finished, they were off to participate in the evening's festivities in the amphitheater. After a round of kids' fun. The audience was treated to a spectacolo: a dance troupe from Rome accompanied by a vocalist, singing and dancing to a medley of musicals. The greatests hits included Jesus Christ Superstar, Hair, Nunsense, Moulin Rouge and Phantom of the Opera. The kids really loved it and the music was fun. It was 11pm by the time we returned to our bungalow, and still we had a hard time getting cooperation for bedtime. It's looking like our kids will be on the Italian time during our stay in Sardegna.
