It was a nice idea to go to centro today to get a photo of the five of us for a holiday card email. Since Josh is the resident photographer, we realized that we have so many pictures of the kids, or me with the kids but not really any of all of us. We wanted to take the photo with an iconic Roman background. The Colosseum was too common, so Josh decided to stage the photo at Castel Sant' Angelo...a truly beautiful backdrop. The problem was that it was a dark and rainy day -- not great for photo taking -- and Avery was crying from the get-go about how it was cold and he didn't want to walk!
In the end, we made it to our designated spot. But it turned out to be difficult to capture the backdrop without making the subjects of the photo the size of ants. Still, we dried Avery's tears and asked a kind gentleman to take a shot (which hopefully all of you will see shortly). Then we had to duck in to a bar to give the kids a snack -- this bribe after only a 30 minute excursion. By the time we'd finished and stepped outside, it was starting to rain so we made it back to the car as soon as possible. But not before we got to see the "Romans" parading with band instruments across the Ponte St. Angelo. Very fun to see the outfits worn in the "olden times."
After having lunch, it was time to take Charlotte to her swim meet. All four of us went to cheer for her in her first event, the 50 fly (farfalle). Then, since it would be another 2 hours before her next event. Josh took the kids home where Morris would make them dinner and they could hang out. Charlotte's second event of the night, and final event of the meet, was the 200 I.M. (misto). She swam well in both events, dropping time from her 50m pool times and improving her place in the rankings.
It was nice to come home and have dinner ready. Then watch some TV before going to bed.
