Spring Break is officially over; Teatro d'Opera

We had no plans for the kids today. It was a day to hang out and chill before "the schedule" begins again tomorrow. As such, I didn't mind that the kids spent all morning in their PJs watching a movie. Josh went out for a long bike ride with Stefano. I walked to the store (leaving Charlotte in charge) and enjoyed the peacefulness of grocery shopping on a Sunday. There was hardly a soul at the market.

Again, we ate outside for lunch and were able to enjoy a performance put on by the girls. They used the window balcony as a stage and danced their choreographed routine, while singing, to Miley Cyrus's Party in the USA. It was very entertaining...and funny. After lunch, Josh took the kids to Gelateria Gracchi. It was unanimous, the gelato there is better than Blue Ice!

I was invited to the Opera tonight by a friend of mine whose husband is out of town. I was looking forward to seeing an opera in Rome. Tonight's performance was Tosca, by Puccini. It was great to partly be able to read (super titles) and understand the words being sung. The Opera had two long intermissions which allowed us opportunity to chat and have a glass of prosecco. While looking rather fascist from the outside, The Teatro d'Opera is actually extremely beautiful and elegant on the inside with four tiers of boxes in a semi-circle around the main floor.

It was a 5pm performance today -- which must essentially be the Italian version of a matinee since nothing usually starts before 8pm -- and I was glad. After giving my friend a ride, I drove home and had a plate of Morris's chicken curry with Josh.
