We went to the beach called Macchiatonda today. It's just south of Ansedonia and another beautiful spot. But it was not so great for kids. As opposed to the beaches at Feniglia and Giannella where the water is shallow for a long way out; here, the water becomes deep almost immediately. The difficulty was compounded today by the fact that there were white-caps and it was quite windy.
We had a picnic of panini at the beach. On the lettinos just next to us were a group of young people. One guy introduced himself, as he heard us speaking English, as he studied at NYU and recalls his time in States fondly. He is from Torino, and was thrilled to be speaking English and meeting Americans who had lived in New York, no less.
On account of the wind, we didn't stay long at the beach. Instead, we returned to the villa for an afternoon nap.
Avery's italian girlfriends |
Later, we ventured out for dinner in Orbetello -- to the same pizzeria that we'd enjoyed last week -- but this time we met Alessia with Vittoria and another mom from RIS, Stefania with her daughter Emma. The kids ate at one table and the adults sat at another.
Afterwards went to Stefania’s apartment in Orbetello. It's a beautiful, renovated loft space. She served a Torta Israeliana -- which was really very good. I don't enjoy most Italian cakes but this one was nutty, and not all cream for a change.
When we left Stefania's, we took a walk through Orbetello. We shopped again at Calzedonia since the sale is now for 50% off, from 30%. The kids enjoyed the entertainment in the town square. But shortly, we had to move on. Our friends, Stefano and Elena, had driven up from Rome with their boys, and they were waiting for us at a nearby gas station so they could follow us to the house. It's dark on those country roads at night.
