AWAR elections

It was a bright and sunny morning despite the forecast for rain. Our guests were up early so everyone had breakfast together before setting off on our respective excursions. After Josh took the kids to school, he drove Brad and Janice down to Piazza del Popolo to begin their tour of Rome in earnest. They were going to see the Galleria Borghese this afternoon.

I set off on my bike to the Savoy Hotel, just off of Via Veneto, where AWAR was hosting its annual election for directors. It's called an election, but without any opposition on the ballot, it's really just an opportunity for the ladies to get together to have a mimosa and some canapes. Still, the candidates need to have a majority in favor of their election.

I took a walk around the neighborhood, looking for the Casino Ludovisi-Boncompagni, which I found. But only after calling 06 06 08. The Casino is not on Via Ludovisi or Via Boncompagni, but rather on Via Lombardia. Furthermore, it is only open by appointment on Tuesday mornings and Friday afternoons. At least now I know where it is for some future Tuesday. I looped back around to the Savoy to see some friends before enjoying my bike ride back through the Villa Borghese.

Back at our villa, I enjoyed a peaceful lunch in the garden on my own. At least as peaceful as things get in our neighborhood these days with the construction project across the street having swung into full gear with the warmer weather. Josh was out for a bike ride and returned just before I left to pick up the kids. The girls were going to swim tonight and Josh took Brad and Janice for a brief neighborhood tour including a visit to the Foro Italico where the 1960 Olympics were held.

I stayed behind to prepare dinner -- I was so happy that we could eat out in the garden this evening. And, the timing worked out perfectly. Upon their return, Olivia and Avery sat outside with us and had a hamburger while the adults had an apertivo. Then Josh put a tired Avery to bed, and Olivia kept the adults company for the antipasti -- prosciutto melone. Then Olivia went to bed while we dined al fresco. Just as we finished our dolci, it was time to collect Charlotte at AquAniene.
