We'd been invited to Sunday brunch at Josh's friend Stefano's house. Imagine that. Sunday brunch. Just like in the States. We stopped by the pasticceria on Viale Parioli on our way and apparently picking up treats on Sunday was a time-honored tradition. You could hardly get inside the place.
We were invited along with three others (a couple and another man) for a wonderful brunch of cheeses, meats, breads, jams, tortes, cakes, juices, green tea and red wine. Then Elena, Stefano's wife, made scrambled eggs! Stefano and Elena have two boys. Francesco is 3 1/2 and is a bit shy. We were hoping that he and Avery would become fast friends but Avery was more content to hang out with his sisters. They also have a 3 1/2 month old baby, Andrea. We spent most of the afternoon relaxing with them and their friends. When it was time to go, nary a sweet was left on the table. It's as if we don't feed our children.
Later, while Avery napped. Josh took the girls bowling. Olivia had been begging to go every since we drove by the place. I think she didn't realize that bowling is actually hard for a 7 year old when the gutter walls aren't put up.
The weather has been terrible. Aside from yesterday, it's been raining a lot and last night the thunder was so loud it woke me up in the middle of the night. It's definitely been a wet fall here in Rome. We had thoughts of going in to the centro for a pizza dinner tonight but the weather, and the hour -- you can't get pizza until late -- put us off. I'm yearning for the days when we can once again eat in our garden.
