It's very frustrating to have to repeat this phrase after living here for two months. Today's Italian class did not give me any more confidence. Just when you think you're able to communicate -- in the present tense -- and it seems the past tense is relatively straightforward. Wrong. There is not just one past tense. There are five past tenses: the present perfect, the past perfect, the imperfect, the past absolute and the past anterior. These don't include the past subjunctive tenses. There are 14 conjugations of each and every Italian verb. Having covered the present perfect, we are now learning the imperfect. How will I ever become semi-fluent?!? It really pays to be born bi-lingual.
I met Josh, Don and Dale after my class for lunch at our usual Parioli buffet spot. They had gone to the Museum of Modern Art down the road this morning and really enjoyed it. It was their last day in Rome and it had rained all morning which was a shame but it was clearing up so we walked home.
We reunited with Morris this evening for dinner. He made his fabulous chicken curry for Don and Dale's farewell dinner in Italy. Avery and Olivia set the table and made place cards (and drawings) for everyone. The heat was on and we were all happy. Only Charlotte was missing because she was at swim practice.
